Time to Act Fruity!

james1In the exercise of His will He brought us forth by the word of truth, so that we would be a kind of first fruits among His creatures.  James 1:18.

Surprisingly, James didn’t say “light was the first fruit” (see Gen 1:3).  Rather James says man is the first fruit of God’s word (uttered from His mouth).  Throughout Scripture we find where everything is to praise and honor God.  Yet, man is His special creation.  We are the only creation He made in His image (Gen 1:26). The words “Let Us make man in Our image” has been a source of debate for some time.  I think this represents another imagery of the Trinity. We are also the only creation He blew into (Gen 2:7).  In fact, God actually formed man (Gen 2:7).  This shows His personal and intimate relationship with us.  The way we live should reflect God.  If we are His first fruits, then we are the top or the best of what He has to offer.  In order not to go down the wrong theological road, let’s look at it this way.  If the first fruit is the best and James tells us we are the first fruit, then we are His best.  We need to live like it.

James also says in verse 17, “there is no variation, or shifting shadow.”  We must imitate God and live with the light of the Lord illuminating through us.  No one goes in search of the darkness when they’re lost.  They look for the light. We can’t let the darkness in us take over the light in us.  However, the darkness will grow stronger and stronger if we don’t feed the light.  We have to be like God and there will not be any “variation, or shifting shadow.”

This is your challenge.  Live like God.  As you continue to walk Godly, there will not be any “variation, or shifting shadow” in you or around you.  Today, start acting fruity.  Or should I say, be the first fruit and show God’s light to the world.

This blog is a part of our on-going series, 12 Things You Can Do To Strengthen Your Christian Walk.  Item #5 states read at least 5 books of the bible.  After all, if you haven’t read The Book, how can you speak on the book.  Much of this blog has been taken from my upcoming book on the Apostle James.  I hope release it by the Spring.
