“There are two equal and opposite errors into which our race can fall about the devils. One is to disbelieve in their existence. The other is to believe, and to feel an excessive and unhealthy interest in them. They themselves are equally pleased by both errors and hail a materialist or a magician with the same delight.”– C.S. Lewis
Recently our ministers were tasked to take a long look around them. In particular, they were to look at signs on buildings, tattoos, commercials, etc. Further, they were to listen to what people talked about? Not just Christians but everyone in general. What did they look at on TV? What type of music did they listen to? We want to be able to minister to everyone. You might be shocked but not everyone sitting in the church is a Christian? I sat in church and wasn’t a Christian. I was simply an attendee and not a very good attendee.
The ministers were a bit surprised by the many signs, tattoos, etc. of zombies, skulls, death, New Age and Spiritualism. They found these images in places they’d never thought would have it. Obviously, having a tattoo isn’t devil worshiping. Yet we want to educate our brothers and sisters what those symbols mean.
So what’s the take away? This is just a wake up call for us all to remember that the devil is busy. It’s kind of ironic how people are willing to believe in the devil but not God! Let’s be “about our Father’s business.”
We’re still working on the conversation and music issue.
